An independent distributor of Altera programmable logic: FPGA, CPLD, SoC FPGA and configuration devices, sourced from franchised distribution, original factory channels and audited broker stock. This policy applies to altera-chips.com and to the enquiries, quotations and orders that pass through it. It explains what personal data we hold, where it comes from, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Our Cookie Policy covers the storage set by your browser and sits alongside this page.

1. Information We Collect

We collect two kinds of personal data: what you type into a form, and what the server records on its own as your request is handled.

1.1 Information You Provide

When you submit a quote request, a contact message or a product enquiry, we receive the fields you filled in. In practice that is your company name, contact name, email address and telephone number, the message itself, the part numbers and quantities you listed, and a delivery address where an order is being prepared.

You choose what to send. Fields are only as complete as you make them, though a quotation is difficult to prepare without a contact address and a part list.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

Separately from anything you type, our web servers log each request. The standard record holds the IP address the request came from, the time it arrived, the page requested and the browser string your client sent.

The site also sets a small amount of browser storage. The categories we use, what each one does and how to withdraw your choice are set out in the Cookie Policy; the consent banner on your first visit is where that choice is made.

2. How We Use Your Information

The data we hold is used for the purposes below and nothing further:

• to answer an enquiry and correspond with you about it;
• to prepare quotations, confirm orders and arrange fulfilment;
• to keep commercial records of what was quoted, sold and shipped;
• to keep the site secure, investigate abusive traffic and diagnose faults.

We do not use enquiry data for unrelated advertising, and we do not build profiles of visitors from it.

3. Legal Basis For Processing

Where data protection law requires a stated basis, we rely on the following:

• Performance of a contract: processing needed to quote for, sell and deliver the parts you asked about, including arranging carriage.
• Legitimate interests: answering enquiries made before any contract exists, keeping the site and its servers secure, and maintaining records of commercial activity.
• Legal obligation: retaining and producing commercial records where tax, customs or other rules require it.
• Consent: for any cookie category beyond the essential one, which you may withdraw at any time through the banner or your browser settings.

4. Information Sharing

We keep sharing to what an enquiry or an order actually needs. The parties who may receive personal data are:

• shipping carriers and customs brokers, where they need a name, address and contact number to move an order and clear it through customs;
• the email and analytics providers that operate parts of this site, acting on our instructions;
• authorities and regulators, where we are legally required to disclose.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not hand it to third parties for their own marketing.

5. Data Retention

We keep personal data for as long as it is needed to service the commercial relationship and to satisfy tax and record-keeping duties. Enquiry correspondence is kept while an account or an open quotation exists; order and shipment records are kept for the period the applicable tax and customs rules require. Server logs are retained for a shorter, limited period and then discarded.

When a record is no longer needed for either purpose, it is deleted or reduced to a form that no longer identifies anyone.

6. Your Rights

Subject to the law that applies to you, you may ask us to:

• confirm whether we hold personal data about you and give you a copy of it;
• correct anything inaccurate or incomplete;
• delete data we no longer have a reason to keep;
• restrict or object to a particular use;
• provide data you gave us in a portable, machine-readable form;
• withdraw consent for a cookie category you previously accepted.

7. Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, and access to enquiry and order records is limited to staff who need it to do their work. Passwords and administrative access are controlled, and server logging lets us spot unusual request patterns.

No system is entirely free of risk. If a breach were to affect your data, we would notify you and the relevant authority where the law requires it.

8. International Transfers

We operate from Hong Kong, and the suppliers, carriers and service providers involved in an order may sit in other jurisdictions. Where personal data moves across a border, we take steps to ensure it remains protected to a standard comparable with the one described here, and we share only what the enquiry or the shipment requires.

9. Children's Privacy

This is a business-to-business site. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age at which they can enter into a contract. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.

10. Changes To This Policy

If our practices change, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes affecting how existing data is used will be brought to your attention through the site.
