This policy explains how altera-chips.com uses cookies and similar storage. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers personal data more broadly.

1. What A Cookie Actually Is

A cookie is a small text file a site asks your browser to keep. It is sent back to the site on each later visit, which is what lets a site remember that you already dismissed a banner or that you picked a language.

Cookies are not programs. They cannot read other files on your device and they cannot install anything.

Where this policy says "cookies" it also covers browser local storage, which works like a cookie but is never transmitted automatically. We use it to carry a part number from a product page to the quote form, and to remember whether you have answered the consent banner.

2. The Four Categories We Use

When you first arrive, the banner lets you accept everything, keep essentials only, or open the preferences panel and choose per category. Nothing outside the essential category is set until you choose.

2.1 Essential

Purpose: Keeping the site working: session handling, security, load balancing and remembering your consent choice.

Examples: a session identifier, a language preference, the record of your cookie decision.

Can you switch these off? No. The site cannot serve a working page without them, so they are set regardless of your choice.

2.2 Analytics

Purpose: Understanding which pages are read and where visitors give up, so we can fix the parts that are not working.

Examples: aggregated page-view counts, entry and exit pages, coarse device type.

Can you switch these off? Yes. Declining them changes nothing about how the site behaves for you.

2.3 Functional

Purpose: Remembering choices you have made so you do not have to repeat them: the language you selected, a part list you started building.

Examples: your selected display language, an in-progress quote form.

Can you switch these off? Yes, though the site will forget your preferences between visits and you may need to re-enter a part list.

2.4 Marketing

Purpose: Measuring whether a campaign brought a visitor who actually enquired, and limiting how often the same message is shown.

Examples: a campaign source tag, a frequency cap, an anonymised conversion flag.

Can you switch these off? Yes. We do not run marketing cookies unless you have opted in.

3. Third Parties

Two kinds of third party may set a cookie through this site:

  • the analytics provider that aggregates our traffic statistics;
  • the advertising platform that measures campaign performance, only if you have opted in.

We do not sell personal data and we do not allow third parties to build a profile of you across unrelated sites using our pages.

4. Server Logs

Separately from cookies, our servers record the request itself: IP address, timestamp, page requested and browser string. This is standard web-server logging, used for security and capacity planning, and it is retained for a limited period.

5. Changing Your Choice

5.1 The Banner

Clear your browser storage for this site and the banner reappears on your next visit, letting you choose again from scratch.

5.2 Browser Settings

Every major browser lets you see and delete stored cookies, and block them for specific sites. Blocking everything may stop parts of this site, including the quote form, from working.

5.3 Do Not Track

We honour the Global Privacy Control signal where your browser sends it. We do not currently act on the older Do Not Track header, because it is not sent consistently enough to rely on.

6. Cookies And Personal Data

Most cookies we set contain no personal data at all. Where a cookie identifier can be linked to a person (for example, the session behind a quote request you submitted), that link is treated as personal data and covered by our Privacy Policy.

7. Changes To This Policy

If we add or remove a cookie category we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will also re-open the consent banner so you can decide again.
